Freedom at Last!

Spring break starts today for dozens of colleges across the country. As you head South to the beach (or West to the mountains), undoubtedly you’ll pack a couple of bottles of sunscreen. Make sure to pack your sunglasses too. Not only do they help conceal your previous night’s exploits, but quality sunglasses will protect your eyes from damaging UV rays.

Make sure you get a pair that offers 100-percent UV protection. When you buy the cheap shades made with tinted, unfiltered lenses, you’re actually causing more damage to your eyes than going without. These inexpensive lenses cause the unprotected pupil to dilate and allow in even more harmful rays. Wider pupils and less-pigmented ocular tissues make eyes (especially those of kids and young adults under 25) more permeable to light and more susceptible to damage.
